Frequently Asked Questions
If I place an order for heating fuel today, when would it be delivered?
If you place your order in the morning, it is highly possible that the order will arrive the same day. Otherwise, it will be delivered the following day, at a suitable time for you.
Why is the use of fuel enhancer recommended?
Fuel enhancer improves burning, reduces fuel consumption and dissolves paraffin. It also helps clear fuel tank deposits. It is an environmentally-friendly product.
What is the recommended quantity of enhancer to use?
The right quantity is two (2) litres of enhancer per one thousand (1,000) litres of fuel. It is best to add the enhancer before filling the tank.
How often should the burner be serviced?
Usually, this should be done before the start of the winter season. However, it is recommended that burners be serviced at the end of the winter season when soot is soft and can be easily removed; technicians are also less busy at this time of the year than in winter.
What other things can be done to facilitate good operation of the central heating system?
  • Restoration of thermal insulation in the outer surface of the boiler and boiler-room pipes, if damaged.
  • Fuel tank cleaning (when empty) to remove rust, sludge, water, etc., at least every 2 years.
  • Removal of smoke eliminator, if any, from the roof of the building.
What are the safety rules for the boiler-room?
  • Sufficient ventilation (natural or mechanical)
  • Keeping the area clean
  • Easy access, not to be used as an area for storing, especially of flammable items/materials
  • Be always equipped with the appropriate fire extinguishers, as recommended by the Fire Brigade.
Central heating a collective heating system covering a building's flats/apartments and shared-use areas. This system is based on circulation of water, heated up in the boiler and transported through pipes via the use of a special device called the circulator, to the radiators. Radiators transmit the heat from the water to the house environment. When the water gets cold, it is again taken down to the boiler where it is reheated and then circulated again and again across the building.
Why should the chimney be cleaned?
Soot from the burning of fuel remains on the chimney's walls and forms a thick layer, which narrows the walls and blocks exhaust-gases from getting out through the chimney. This causes exhaust-gases to return to the boiler-room and from there to the rest of the building.
How often should the fuel tank be cleaned, why is this a "must" and what happens to the fuel quantity in the tank?
The fuel tank should be cleaned at least every 2 years as the fuel contains small amounts of soil, sulphur, water and paraffin, whose specific weight makes them subside at the bottom of the tank as residues. To clean a tank, the fuel must be first removed and then taken back after cleaning is completed.
Why should fire extinguishers be recapped?
Fire extinguishers contain a special powder of fire-extinguishing properties, as well as nitrogen which is a powder propellant. As time goes by, and as a result of moisture, the contents of a fire extinguisher will turn into a solid mass and the device will be incapacitated. Also, nitrogen may escape as a result of a loose valve, which means that the extinguisher will have no propellant power.
How often should a building be disinfected?
To effectively eliminate unwanted organisms, such as insects and rodents, which carry infections and diseases, disinfections should be done, especially during breeding times, i.e. in the spring and fall.
